Inspection & Testing

CES undertakes all kinds of testing related to cladding and spool fabrication work. To ensure high quality and reliability in our weld overlay products we use a combination of destructive and non-destructive testing techniques. Our NDE technicians are qualified and approved to both national and international standards.

Examination techniques

01 / METHOD

Penetrant testing

Each component is subjected to penetrant testing after weld overlay deposition. State of the art remote video-probe inspection technology is used when inspecting internal bore diameters of pipework. We can currently test and examine internally up to 12 metre lengths of pipe, based on water-washable test methods.

02 / METHOD

CRA thickness inspection

To ensure weld quality, CES carries out thickness surveys as per approved procedures in accordance with code and customer standards, using innovative equipment designed specifically for measuring the cladding thickness of metallic protective linings such as Inconel on carbon steel and low alloy steel substrates.

03 / METHOD

Ultrasonic testing

Integrity of overlay bonding and base materials is closely examined using ultrasound techniques, with a combination of shear and compression wave probes.

04 / METHOD

Magnetic particle testing

External surfaces of ferromagnetic components are examined for surface-breaking defects when required, after all manufacturing stages have been completed.

05 / METHOD

Positive material identification

PMI is performed using XRF analysers and spectrometers, giving measurement across a flexible working range of ferrous and non-ferrous alloy metals. Individual components and weld deposition can be identified by chemical specification, and the exact grade established from both unidentified samples and components of known analysis specification. Reports download from the spectrometers direct to PC for immediate analysis.

06 / METHOD

Hydrostatic testing

CES is equipped with the facilities to perform and control hydrostatic testing of line pipes and spool pieces, dedicated to providing the safest, most efficient, most reliable, cost effective and technologically advanced service available.

Standards & documentation

Conformity you can hand to the client

Inspection procedures are in accordance with international standards such as ASME, API, DNV and ISO, and fully address client-specific requirements. Subsequent to completion of all inspection processes, CES issues a final document of conformity including a breakdown of methods, techniques and acceptance criteria, along with technical comments from qualified personnel.
